Into the White Rose County

On Saturday March 23rd a party of Brethren from West Lancashire made an early start to venture into Yorkshire.
All that’s left!
The usual way to travel to Leeds is via the M62, however this year due to the M62 being closed between Junction 22-24, our interpid travellers had to de-tour through some rural parts of Yorkshire, Pole Moor, Greetland and Hipperholme, to name a few.

Eventually they found their way back to the M62, eventually arriving at Castle Grove, Headingly, that being the venue for the Yorkshire Allied Degrees District meeting.
Castle Grove Headingly
Another group of daring travellers chose to rendezvous at Junction 36 of the M6, taking the more scenic route heading towards Skipton on the A65, by passing Skipton, one of this party became dismayed, however, choosing a lay-by with a fabulous view, the driver produced a bag containing three pork pies, suddenly the dismayed passenger, forgot all his cares, tucking into his pie.  Such was the skill of this un-named passenger that he was able by taste alone to identify the bakery who produced the said pie.
The Lodge Room
Eventually all the members from West Lancashire arrived at Castle Grove, they were welcomed by Brian Butterfield the District Grand Prefect, following the welcome, they were able to meet friends and share a cup of Yorkshire tea and some biscuits.

As mentioned in a previous report Castle Grove is a striking; Grade II listed 19th Century Manor House hidden away in Headingly, just a few miles north of Leeds city centre.
The West Lancashire contingent
Build as a private residence in 1834 for the linen merchant Samuel Holmes, Castle Grove retains an array of original architectural pieces, including a sweeping staircase, intricate oak panelling, ornate fireplaces and stained glass, and a magnificent domed ceiling.
The DGP and his Deputy
Eventually all the Guests together with members of the District of Yorkshire assembled in an ornate Lodge Room.
John McKenzie, Paul Snape, Roy Ashley
During the introductions mention was made of that well known comedy duo “Morecambe & Wise”, I couldn’t possibly comment further.
Ready to Dine
During his address Brian Butterfield the District Grand Prefect for Yorkshire, as well as thanking all the guests for their support, thanked the members from West Lancashire for their valued and regular support.
Frankie Clarke
After the meeting was closed, the aprty were able to enjoy refreshment in the company of friends from both the District of Yorkshire and other Districts visiting the meeting. Prior to out departurem a presentation was made to our District Prefect,
A Presentation to our DGP
By the time of departure the M62 was fully open, the return journey was uneventful, we eventually crossed the border back into the Red Rose County, satisfied in having enjoyed a great day out with our friends across the Pennines.
